As we kick off Adoptober 2026, our rescue teams are facing an unprecedented surge in multi-animal cases right across England and Wales. Our incredible teams are working side-by-side to give every rescued animal the second chance they deserve.

How we can all support Adoptober

Our centres and branches are currently caring for more than 7,000 animals, with over 1,000 more waiting in private boarding until space opens up. By helping our long-stay animals and finding loving homes, we clear vital space so our rescue teams can keep helping animals in urgent need.

Here at the RSPCA Lancashire East Branch animal centre we have several long stay animals that need that little bit extra help and specialist homes in order to meet their needs. Let us introduce our special ones:

Beetle Juice is a 2.5 year old Collie x husky (Borsky). He has been with us at the centre for 555 days whilst we worked with him to get him ready for rehoming. He is now ready for that special someone who can continue his training in a home.

Due to this cross, it means that Beetle will be a high maintenance breed. They are highly intelligent, extremely energetic, loyal but can be very stubborn. He requires an active family, a lot of mental stimulation (enrichment, training) and an experienced handler. Beetle may look more like a Collie, however, his temperament is more Husky. He’s vocal and full of attitude which although part of his charm, can be misunderstood by inexperienced dog handlers. Therefore we are looking for a home where the family have previous Husky experience. Beetle is a handsome, young male (2 years of age), so his potential adopters will need to be physically fit as he can be strong when he sees something of interest. However, he does have the potential to walk nice on lead, mostly in quiet areas (his favourite).

While Beetle has been with us at the centre, he has had lots of training. He’s very curious and has walked out with some of the dogs at the centre. When meeting other dogs, it can be overwhelming for him and he can be intense and vocal when first meeting, but will settle after he calms. Beetle has shown in the kennels that he does exhibit signs of resource guarding (this is breed specific to the Siberian Husky). Therefore, he will not be allowed to go with any dogs just to manage this type of behaviour. However, he can still be able to walk out with other dogs, dependant on the dogs being able to cope with how vocal and energetic he can be. He will not be allowed to go with cats or small mammals. Although Beetle can come off as intense, all he needs most is socialisation. He’s very curious about the world around him and needs a confident and adventurous family to show and teach him about new experiences (all in a positive and supportive manner).

While Beetle has been at the centre, he hasn’t been happy in kennels. He is currently on behaviour medication to help him cope with the stresses of kennels. His potential adopters will need to continue and wean him off appropriately with the help of vet advise. More information will be provided upon request.

Beetle is also very independent and will only accept touch and attention on his terms. When he does want that human interaction, he can be a very loving, loyal and affectionate companion. However, this will have to be developed over time with patience and space. With this in mind We are looking for an adult only home, no children (living or visiting the home) under the age of 16 years.

Lynx is a 3.5 year old Staffy x GSD. He has been with us at the centre for 551 days whilst we worked with him to get him ready for rehoming. He is now ready for that special someone who can continue his training in a home.

Please read full description before applying! Lynx is looking for a very specific home that can meet his needs. We need your help to set him up for success.

Meet this handsome boy Lynx, who is looking for a very speial person to give him the chance he deserves. He has spent a long time in kennels whilst we have worked on his insecurities with the help of a clinical animl behaviourist.

He is a boy with some challenges, so he won't be suited to just any home. He can be reactive towards other dogs and can find people scary, meaning he needs an experienced owner who understands his needs and is committed to positive, reward-based training, continuing with his current training plan.

He is looking for a quiet, adult only home where he can have time and space to settle and build a trusting relationship with his new person. Ideally a home where there are not many visitors and where he can be slowly introduced to new people in a managed and oredered way. A home in a quiet area without lots of traffic (people, dogs or vehicles) would be ideal for him so he can build his confidence over time. His new owner will need to be confident and experienced and able to advocate for Lynx as he is a dog who can struggle in certain situations, although he is improving all the time.

He currently wears a muzzle for vet visits and when around new people and dogs, so his new owner will need to be comfortable continuing this and working at his pace. "Lets not set him up to fail". People are often not keen to use muzzles but they provide safety and a feeling of security, and when muzzle trained correctly the dog will associate the muzzle with fun things like nice walks.

There is so much to love about Lynx!

He enjoys nothing more then destroying a soft toy.

He loves playing with his toys.

He has been on doggy days out with staff members and loves nothing more than snuggling on the sofa with the people he loves.

Once he feels comfortable, he loves going on quiet walks with his trusted people.

With the right person, patience and understanding we believe he will make a great little side kick for someone.

He is a very intelligent boy who picks up new training well.

He may need a little more from is future owner then some dogs but the right person could make all the difference to his life.

He isn't looking for a perfect owner he's looking for his person. Someone experienced, patient and willing to see the wonderful dog behind his challenges.

Could you be the speical home he has been waiting for?

As mentioned we are looking for an adult only home and one that is pet free. Due to his very specific needs we are unable to consider any applications that do not meet the outlined criteria.

Daisy is a 2.5 year old Lurcher. She has been with us at the centre for 135 days whilst we worked with her to get her ready for rehoming. She is now ready for that special someone who can continue her training in a home.

Meet Daisy! Daisy is a 2 year old Lurcher who is looking for a confident and experienced home.

She absolutley loves her training and will need a family who wants to continue not only her 'life skills' training but also her trick training, to keep her busy brain active.

Daisy loves playing with her toys, going out on quiet walks with her friends and learning new things!

Daisy has had a very diffficult start to life which makes her unsure of unfamiliar dogs and people - She will bark and lunge if she is unsure and she can be very strong, For this reason Daisy will be best suited to a home where she can go on quiet walks away from lots of people and dogs.

Daisy does have a high chase drive due to her breed, so needs a home with no small furries or birds.

Daisy is muzzle trained and she will need muzzling when appropriate.

Daisy has spent some time in a foster home during her stay with us and she does settle nicely in the home and she is house trained.

Daisy needs a patient and understanding adult only home, She may be able to live with another confident, well rounded and tolerant dog - dependent on sucessful meets.

Enzo is a 2 year old Daschund. He has been with us at the centre for 355 days whilst we worked with him to get him ready for rehoming. He is now ready for his next journey and the best news is that he does have a home lined up.

Woody is an 8 year old GSD. He has been with us at the centre for 94 days whilst we worked with him to get him ready for rehoming. He is now ready for his next journey and the best news is that he does have a home lined up.

Buttercup is a 7 month old DSH cat. She has been with us at the centre for 98 days this includeded a short break in a home which sadly did not work out.

Hi everyone, My name is Buttercup

I am now looking for my forever home, after spending over 11 weeks with my foster mummy, her cats and dog, I am now ready to move into my new home.

I am not phased by household sounds, the hoover, washer, tv, radio etc. I am however still a little scared of new people and will hide, all I ask is that you be patient with me and give me time to get to know my new family.

I am fine with other animals, cats and cat friendly dogs. I do not shy away from them.

I am adorable, and I do love to sleep on my foster mum's bed and have a snuggle, I also snuggle up on the sofa and still do not sit on my foster mum's knee but I get lots of fuss and kisses and like to be groomed.

I guess my ideal home would be a single adult home, or a family home who has older sensible children, either home will have to be super patience and let me come on at my own pace. It’s taken me a long time to get where I am now and will need time in a new environment, to adjust and learn to trust you like I do my foster mum, If you have a friendly cat this would be my ideal home I guess.

I was found in a garden with my mum and 4 siblings, we did not have any human socialisation and handling and this is why it has taken so long for us to come around. We were brought to the centre by a very kind lady, my mum and siblings have all found themselves happy ever after and now it is my turn.

I do not have any aggression issues and I am not food obsessed, I do enjoy my toys.

Are you able to give me the time, patiences and understanding that my foster mum has given me to be my happy ever after, why not complete the application form or give the centre a call on 01254 231118 to have a chat.
