Please help us collect

Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th May

Please Offer 2 Hours To Help Us To Raise Funds!

We are appealing to all animal lovers in the community for help with our charity collections at Tesco at the start of May. Traditionally, the first week of May is known nationally as “RSPCA week” and it is a golden opportunity for us to raise some much needed funds to continue our animal welfare work in the East Lancashire district. The animal centre costs £300,000 per year to care for and rehome local animals that have been abandoned, abused or neglected. Our Branch Manager Ken Harrison explains “Each year we get a brilliant fundraising opportunity when Tesco allow us to collect in their stores. We are very hopeful that there are people who are reading this that can offer a couple of hours, at their convenience at their nearest store on either the Friday, Saturday or Sunday to help us to raise as much money as possible.”

The RSPCA is a national charity, which employs the Inspectors and office staff who investigate and tackle animal cruelty. On a more local level, RSPCA branches which are independent and self financing charities run their own districts animal centres and help to promote animal welfare. But the recent recession has hit our branch hard and fundraising is becoming a more difficult task. Mr Harrison continued “We are relying more and more on the generosity of shoppers handing over a few coins to us, but that’s not the real problem because the people of East Lancashire are massive animal lovers and always give generously. What we are finding hard is getting enough people to help us to actually collect the money at the Blackburn, Burnley, Clitheroe, Accrington, Great Harwood and now the Padiham Tesco stores.”

We would love to hear from you if you can help out anytime between 10am and 6pm, on any day between Friday the 3rd and Sunday 5th May at any of the 5 stores. You can contact our fundraising department directly on 01200 425176 or please e-mail us by clicking on the store location that is most convenient for you. You really can make a difference by volunteering 2 hours at your convenience. Please help.

Thank you to all of the brilliant volunteers who supported our collecting efforts during RSPCA week 2012.  On behalf of all the animals, staff, volunteers and committee members we would like to thank everybody who participated, supported us and collected for us throughout the first week of May. This was an incredible team effort and if you helped in any way we would like to let you know how much we really appreciate your efforts.

The RSPCA week collection is our major fundraiser of the year, and takes a great deal of organising because we now have 6 Tesco stores in our area, and to have collectors at all 5 stores for an entire week is a major challenge involving hundreds of kind spirited local people! This kind of fundraising is only possible thanks to the commitment and hard work of our animal loving supporters.

The total raised for RSPCA week 2012 was an incredible £5,802.25 !

Each store total was Clitheroe £1,624.19, Burnley £2,445.37, Accrington £840.48, with weekend only collections at Great Harwood £348.21 and Blackburn £544.00

A huge thank you to all, and may we make a very special mention for our brilliant collection co-ordinators Ann Smith, Wendy Taylor and Elizabeth Eccles.

Well Done everybody!
