Over 7 gruelling August days, our branch manager Ken Harrison and branch secretary Wendy Taylor walked an incredible 100 miles to raise funds for the animal centre, and both finished very tired, achey and in need of their own beds for the night – but without a single blister between them!

They set off on Sunday the 14^th of August from Grassington near Skipton and covered an average 15 miles per day until they reached the glorious Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire and the finishing line!

The weather was a mixture of rain and hot sunshine throughout the week which was perfect conditions for a long distance walk. Ken and Wendy marched over several massive hills throughout the remote countryside near Ripon, Thirsk and Pickering until eventually reaching Robin Hoods Bay on the coast between Scarborough and Whitby.

Almost 6 months of planning went into the walk, working out the logistics of where to sleep, eat, stop for breaks and most importantly where to have a refreshing drink after each days efforts!

The pair were given massive support from Wendys husband Nigel Taylor, who provided their back up support and even paid for the accommodation so that the walk could go ahead! Thanks very much Nigel - Ken and Wendy would have really struggled without your excellent support and encouragement.

This sponsored walk heading east is one of two 100 mile walks starting at Grassington, you are exactly 100 miles from the east and west coast at this starting point. The fundraising target was £2,000 and everybody is delighted that this was achieved! Ken and Wendy raised an astonishing £2,027 for the animals in our care at Altham Animal Centre.

What a fantastic achievement guys. Well Done! We won’t ask if you are doing the Grassington to west coast next year just yet….
